Who Would Have Thought

When I was a little girl, I didn’t have dreams of being a wife, a mother, or nurse. Nope, I was going to be a pharmacist just like my Pawpaw and Uncle Jack.

High school was centered around academics. I pushed myself taking accelerated classes and studying non-stop. Then I took the class that changed my life…Chemistry. I remember wondering why…why…why; Why do I need to learn the periodic table, why??? I called my Uncle Jack and asked, “Why?” and he said “Lee, you don’t need to know why; just memorize it and move on. Chemistry is the foundation you need to be a pharmacist”

Well, I gave this a lot of thought and realized perhaps I was not supposed to be a pharmacist because I needed to know why! I didn’t want to memorize…I wanted to know!!! Little did I know this concept would be the beginning point for a new path for my life. You see, God had a different plan for my life. He knew the desires of my heart before I did and redirected my steps. I didn’t know my way on this path but I do believe God has directed my every step.

Today, thanks to God, I am a wife, a mother, a grandmother, and a nurse…Who would have thought?

“The Lord says, ‘I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.’ Psalm 32:8,

Are You Allowing God To Be In Control and Guide You Along the Best Pathway For Your Life?

Michael Davis Was My Little Friend

Heaven gained a Hero on Saturday May 9, 2011 when Michael Davis selflessly gave his life to rescue a child who had fallen into the treacherous Brazos River.

Michael Davis…Devoted Husband, Loving Father, Cherished Son, Idolized Big Brother, and Incredible Coach! Today many are remembering Michael Davis the adult but my most precious memories of Michael were of him as a Little Boy!

We bought our very first home in Angleton Texas and it wasn’t long after we moved there while working in the back yard, I met Michael. He was the cutest blond-headed blue-eyed boy EVER! When we first met he was very shy… each time I said hello to him at the fence he began to warm up to me. Then before I knew it every time I came outside, Michael would run to the fence to tell me hello and talk my ear off. He was adorable!

Then one day his mom was outside and she and I finally got to meet over the fence. Each time we would visit the conversations got longer and longer. We would pass our kids back and forth over the fence so they could play together. Then one day we decided the kids were getting to heavy to lift so we unfastened the chain link fence and rolled a section back so we could access each others yards. The kids were elated! Especially Michael!!!

Michael would come over frequently…often without his mom knowing about it. Shhhhhh… we never told her! Richard (my husband) would be watching TV and would get the sensation he was being watched. Sure enough, Michael would be standing outside with his little hands cupped around his eyes peeking through our sliding glass door. Richard would announce…”Babe, Michael’s here”. I would open the sliding glass door and he would walk right in, sit in his usual spot on the end of the couch and watch TV with Richard, our girls, and me. Of course we would always leave the door cracked so we could hear his momma calling him.  I believe he loved this so much because it was something he was able to do solo…separate from his sisters Leigh and Kelly who were twins just a year younger than he was. Sometimes, a guy just needs a break!

About the time Michael went to Kindergarten I began to babysit children in our home. Every day Michael’s mom would come over, visit,  help me serve lunch and get the kids down for their naps so Michael would spend half a day in my home during the school year and the better part of the day during summer months. We did a lot of fun things with the kids. One activity was a parade around the block and Michael led the pack on the BIG WHEEL…

We also celebrated all Birthdays together…Michael poor thing was always surrounded by girls and all the emotions that went with them!

We had great times and made wonderful memories playing in the back yard…

Michael moved across town, grew up, went to college, pursued a career, got married, and had children. While Michael was to some a Son, Brother, Husband, Dad, or Coach. To me…

Michael Davis Was My Little Friend!

Please join me in praying for Michael’s Family today and in the days to come…God Bless You My Precious Friends!

Make An Impact

“Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs it down, But a good word makes it glad.” Proverbs 12:25 (NASB)

There are days my heart is weighed down, times when I feel a heaviness but find all it takes is a good word from a friend, a smile from a stranger, a hug from a co-worker and my frown turns upside down.

Be a blessing to someone today…

  • Give a compliment
  • Wrap your arms around a shoulder
  • Throw a smile across the room
  • Speak positive words

Make a positive Impact on Your World Today for Him!!!

He Is My World

In a recent communication with a precious friend, I shared my itinerary from now through the month of June…She commented, “You need a personal assistant”…

That comment has rolled through my head many times!!! Then like a lightening bolt flashing before my eyes it came to me…I have one!!!

Surely God is my help; the Lord is the one who sustains me.Psalms 54:4

Without His presence at this time in my life, I would be a total failure…

He makes my paths straight

He goes before me

He fights my battles

He keeps me singing

He is my light

He Is My World!!!

Sharpest Tool in the Shed

After the release of the movie Shrek, the song “All Star” became very popular.

My favorite phrase of the song is “I ain’t the sharpest tool in the shed”.  I must admit, I’ve used the phrase a time or two when referring to others who makes (for lack of a better word) “dumb” decisions.

While not everyone is on the same intellect level, we do have access to the sharpest tool available…The Bible!

… and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Ephesians 6:17

For the word of God [is] quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and [is] a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12

No, we do not always  make wise decisions…But, we do have access to the sharpest tool which provides guidance in the decisions we do make.

By applying the word of  God to our lives, we suddenly become brilliant!!! So, I challenge you to be an All Star and pick up…

No More “What If”

Have you found yourself wanting for something but find fear holds you back? You find yourself living in the world of “What If”

  • What if it hurts?
  • What if I can’t do it?
  • What if they don’t like me?
  • What if they don’t approve?
  • What if it doesn’t turn out right?
  • What if _________ ? (you fill in the blank)

Do the thing you fear most and the death of fear is certain. ~Mark Twain.  Action is our greatest weapon against fear. Left to smolder, fear grows upon itself, but in the face of action, fear is left in the dust.

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear…I John 4:18

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us, it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” ~Nelson Mandela

The Battle is On

This morning I woke feeling a little low as it seems everything in our home is wearing out. My washing machine won’t spin, the dryer is screaming, the lawn mower has a flat, my car is making strange noises and has no get up and go. Then to top it off it is going to take a lot of money to make all these needed repairs!

Then I  opened my computer to find several heavy prayer requests. My Godly Christian friends with ill family members, loss of jobs, death of a parent…What’s up with all this?

While the secular world would say “That’s Life”, I say “That’s satan”. To hear how my Christian Brothers and Sisters are under such attack at such an important time of year…we are coming up on EASTER…the most important celebration for a Christian, confirms what I have known to be true for many years. Satan will do anything to divert our attention from this celebration.

In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. 1 Peter 1:6-7

Wow…Hold tight my Brothers and Sisters…Jesus will be revealed!

The Battle is On!!!

Ladies Night 2011

How Sweet It Is To Be Loved By You

Guest Speaker

 Jonna Gibson

Jonna  is no stranger to the ministry of the Lord.  Having grown up in church and giving her life to the Lord at a very young age, her testimony is one that proclaims the power of God’s love that keeps a young person pure and grounded in Him.  Jonna has carried her commitment to the Lord and His Kingdom even into her adult years with the same consistency.  She has been married to Pastor Donald Gibson since 1989 and although she has served alongside him as a helpmate, providing strength and encouragement for over 20 years, she is not without her own calling.

Jonna has been gifted to speak words of wisdom and discernment into lives and situations wrapped in a very real and straight-forward, yet mercy and grace-filled package.  Setting her apart from others is her ability to connect with real people in real situations as she finds this common ground with them; that in addition to wanting to be loved, we are all created on purpose and for a purpose and life is about enjoying the journey of discovering what that purpose is.  She is able to draw on her gifts in her service as a full-time RN where she is continually called upon to be a support to grieving families, giving her an opportunity to share Jesus in an otherwise seemingly God-less scene.

Together Donald and Jonna have two boys, Trey and Corey, and they reside in Houston, TX.
