A New Found Passion

Passion a feeling of intense enthusiasm towards or compelling desire for someone or something.

When I discovered my passion I was completely caught off guard. I definitely wasn’t looking for anything extra to do in my life…I considered myself busy enough without adding anything else to my plate.

Working as a full time Nurse Consultant, traveling all over South Texas, and literally living out of  hotels, I seldom found time for enjoying a hobby. Then COVID-19 happened and the nurses were pulled out of the field. All of the sudden, I didn’t have to drive 2-6hrs a day or live out of suitcase and for the first time in a very long time work life balance was restored and I began to enjoy everyday life.

Around the end of March, Brandi, my daughter asked me to help her refinish some chairs she had bought for her bay house. Eager to spend quality time with her, I agreed to help. That’s when the magic happened and suddenly I found myself hooked and knew that painting furniture was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

I then became a sponge! I watched every YouTube video I could find, researched Pinterest, and joined multiple groups on Facebook. As I implemented the techniques I learned, I was blown away at the results.

Very quickly I realized I would not be able to keep all the pieces I worked on and to purchase additional pieces I would have to sell the ones I completed. So, initially I started posting my work on VarageSale and later discovered Marketplace on Facebook and began listing there.

An additional perk to selling  furniture online is meeting the clients! I love seeing their joy as they receive their new found treasures. Often they send me pictures of their new piece after it has been set up in their home. I absolutely love that!!!

I then set up my Facebook Page A Love Lee Design and posted photos of my work and before I knew it I was receiving special requests. While I enjoy doing commissioned pieces, it can be pretty stressful too. Pleasing the client is so important to me because they have entrusted me with their treasures.

I am so honored that God birthed in me this new found passion. He is the most perfect example of what it means to be creative! After all, He created the heavens and earth.  He created the garden, the animals, and He created us…Talk about creativity at it’s finest…Colors, Textures, Sounds, and Smells. It amazes me that God loves us enough to create us in His image which includes His passion for being creative!

Enjoy the photos of a few of the pieces I’ve done!

Yes, you read the title right! Now that I have had time to rest after retiring from my nursing career, I am eager to get back to fostering my creative side again. I have missed being spontaneous; waking up each morning to work on or plan my next project. You see it makes perfect sense because it is part of who I am… The Word says I was created in my Father’s image and let me tell you…He is the ultimate at being creative!!!

So, I knew what I wanted to do but so many questions began to flood my mind…

  • What am I most passionate about?
  • What shall I create?
  • Where do I start?
  • Who will be interested?
  • What if I’m not good enough?

Whoa…Strike that last question! There will always be doubters and those who just won’t like me or my work. In fact that reminds me of the piece I wrote on “How Juicy Do We Want to Be”. Yep, if He births a passion within me, then I know it will be good enough because…He is the One who gifted me and placed a desire in my heart to get back to being creative.

So, I sat and read over my list and I asked myself over and over…What am I most passionate about? Then like a ton of bricks it hit me!!! Other than God and my family which is a given…I realized the thing I am most passionate about is HOME! Of Course it is my Passion…HOME! I love everything about HOME!!!

Hmmm…OK, so now what? Funny how God works,  He didn’t make me wait long for that answer and he chose the perfect person to plant the seed…My dear friend Pam Stuckey is equally passionate about her home as I am mine. In-fact, our husbands shudder at the thought of us going to Hobby Lobby together! In a conversation with Pam she said, “You know, not everyone has the ability or vision for design. Would you consider helping me build Barndominiums?”. Well, after much discussion I was in and we were on our way! Pam consults on the build and I consult on the design of the floor plan, surfaces, color schemes, and flooring…Making the client’s Pinterest dreams come true!

In addition to making dreams come true for new builders, there are a lot of women who have commented, “I would love for you to help me decorate my house.” or “I wish you would give my house an overhaul.” or ” Would you consider staging my house for me so it will sale faster?”. Hmmm…More seeds planted and I have decided to nurture them and watch them grow. So, now I am expanding my services to include:

  • Re-Design by incorporating what you already have to create a whole new look by
    • Re-arranging furnitures
    • Re-hanging art
    • Changing the placement of accent pieces
  • New Design…Out with the old and in with the new. After a consultation visit to determine budget and your personal preference, I go to work making your dreams come true.
  • Seasonal and Holiday Decorating you have always wanted but just couldn’t figure out how to pull it off or don’t have time…Let me help!!!

Home should be welcoming and inviting to you, your family, and your guests. It should tantalize all your senses so you crave to be there…

Your HOME, Let’s Create it Together!!!

Freedom in Passion

More times than I can count I have been told I am passionate about different things…

To that I respond…YES, I AM!!!

I am of the belief we must be passionate about our beliefs, life, people and things we love. It is the passion we feel for all of these that give validity and importance!

In-fact…I have a passion meter; the higher the passion the greater the importance. While the term passion meter may not be used everyone has one. Other terms people may be more familiar with are

  • Soap Box
  • Button (as in when someone “pushes your button”)
  • Focus

To be passionate at any level ensures you are connected, engaged, care, or on board…In-fact the absence of passion leads to bondage; the bondage of apathy, listlessness, and disconnect.

Think about it…If God were not passionate about us He would have not given His Son as the ultimate sacrifice to give us freedom from our sin!!!

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16

Allow His passion to free you from your past, your sin, your apathy…The more you become aware of His passion the more you will become passionate about Him, people, things and the life  He has blessed you with!!!

Step into Freedom…Connect with your passions!!!

Be All You Can Be

How many times have you heard…someone refer to another by their appearance?

  • She’s smoking hot
  • She has such a pretty face
  • Her hair is always perfect
  • He’s built
  • He’s got those bedroom eyes

You know…you’ve heard them all.

I know you have seen or been on a conference call where they put the picture of the person speaking up on the screen so everyone will have a face to go with the voice.

Today, I was face on the screen…I was the guest speaker delivering information to a group of salesmen.

The phone rang and the hotel manager on the other end of the line introduced himself and said, “I am going to patch you into the conference now”.  I then heard a woman introducing me.

We immediately went into the subject matter and spoke to the group for about 15 minutes followed by a question answer session. Then to my surprise the audience applauded…

Oh My Gosh…I realized it was a conference room FULL of people…It was at that moment I realized putting my picture up on a screen in no way gave those people a clue who I was and I was reminded we are sooo much more than our appearance!

It is my voice, my knowledge, passion, enthusiasm, and excitement…Not just my appearance that defines me!

Now don’t get me wrong…anyone who knows me also knows I must be really ill if I have not applied my makeup or fixed my hair for the day. I am a firm believer in being the best me I can be at all times…

Do I do that for others?

NOPE! It is all for me…I love routine but I also love spontaneity so I kill two birds with one stone.

  1. Routine: I have the same regimen every morning…
  2. spontaneity: I’m always dressed and ready for any fun that might come my way!!!

While I may have been a face on the screen today…I am sooo much more. For that God gets all the glory cause He don’t make no junk!!!

My Father created me in His image…He loves me and is crazy for me!

Pssssst….

He feels the same for you!!!

My sweet friend…

Be All You Can Be…FOR HIM!!!

Adding Passion in Life

This morning I read a post on Facebook and the very word that came to my mind was Passion…

Susan Revermann, writes: Passion can be anything powerful or compelling, a strong desire towards something or just overall enthusiasm in life. Having passion in your life helps give personal power to live fully. When mind, body and spirit work together, it can help to manifest your potential and overcome obstacles. Many people shy away from seeking passion because of fear of failure and of taking the risks that will lead to an undefined future. Defining passion in life can fuel creativity and inspiration and change your life experience.

Yep, that defines my precious Brother-in-Law Mike Smith. This was what he  posted: Forget about the Pied Piper because all of the little kids came out of their classrooms and followed me down the hall as I played “If You’re Happy and You Know It” on trumpet. The new primary playground is now open and I left them blowing bubbles and playing on the new playground!”

Mike retired from teaching band in public school and then went immediately to teach in a Christian school. His passion for music is evident the very moment he picks up his French horn. One is moved to emotion at the sound of the very first note he plays. Mike while passionate about music is even more passionate about Christ!!!

This caused me to think about my own passions in life. For as long as I can remember, I have been told “you are so passionate”. To that I say “YES I AM” !!! I love life and live it in such a way that everything and everyone matters. However, one area I am most passionate is Women’s Ministry and speaking God’s love, mercy, and healing over women’s lives. Women’s Retreats, Ladies Night, Teas, and Lock-ins are an awesome way to remove ourselves from the hustle and bustle of the world and focus on relationships…with both God and Sisters in Christ. However, Women’s Ministry is equally important in the everyday life; ministering to women who get caught up in the everyday hum drum life and become discouraged…Yep, this is the calling God has placed on my life and I am passionate about His calling!!!

What is your passion?

Having trouble figuring it out? Perhaps you might want to check out “How to Define Your Passion in Life” for some help.

Live life with Passion!
