Choose Now

What are your choices?  Whom are your choices for? Not just for yourself.

Choose now whom you will serve, and that choice is going to affect the next generation, and the next generation, and the next.

Choice never affects just one person alone.  It goes on and on and the effect goes out into geography and history.

You are part of history and your choices become part of history.

-Edith Schaeffer

“But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.” Joshua 24:15

I love this scripture! In-fact so much so, it is the displayed at my front door so all who enter know…

As for me and my house…We Will Serve the Lord!

Explore…Dream…Discover

Nothing in life is certain. Things change, people change, and circumstances change…So, when thinking about making a change how do you know if you are making a wise decision?

YOU DON’T!

BUT…

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.
       -Mark Twain

Today, I choose to explore my options, dream BIG, and discover what lies ahead. In doing so I am confident God’s got my back because God’s word says…

In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps. Proverbs 16:9

Don’t Look Back

Do you find yourself looking back at your past?

“… forget all that—it is nothing compared to what I am going to do.
For I am about to do something new.
See, I have already begun! Do you not see it?
I will make a pathway through the wilderness.
I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.”
Isaiah 43:18-19 (NLT)

Take a Good Look in The Mirror

Have you found yourself…

  • Laughing at a joke you didn’t find funny?
  • In a place you have no desire to be?
  • Engaging in a conversation you don’t want to have?
  • Wearing clothes you don’t enjoy wearing?
  • Doing things you don’t enjoy doing?

Have you asked yourself why…I believe human beings are so hard on themselves and seek the affirmation of others to validate their existence. They often say and do things   in order to “fit in” or “be liked”  and lose their unique identity in doing so.

I love this quote by Susan Jeffers…

“Remove those ‘I want you to like me’ stickers from your forehead
and, instead, place them where they truly will do the most good —
on your mirror!”

Be all He created you to be and learn to like yourself…

Aint That the Truth!

In the line at the store, the cashier told the older woman that she should bring her own grocery bag because plastic  bags weren’t good for the environment.
The woman apologized to him and explained, “We didn’t
have the green thing back in my day.”

The clerk responded, “That’s our problem today. The former
generation did not care enough to save our environment.”

He was right, that generation didn’t have the green thing
 in its day.

Back then, they returned their milk bottles, soda bottles
and beer bottles to the store. The store sent them back to  the plant to be washed and sterilized and refilled, so it could use the same bottles over and over. So they really were recycled.

But they didn’t have the green thing back in that
 customer’s day.

In her day, they walked up stairs, because they didn’t
have an escalator in every store and office building.  They walked to the grocery store and didn’t climb into  a 300-horsepower machine every time they had to go two blocks.

But she was right. They didn’t have the green thing in
 her day.

Back then, they washed the baby’s diapers because they
didn’t have the throw-away kind. They dried clothes on a line, not in an energy gobbling machine burning up  220 volts – wind and solar power really did dry the clothes.  Kids got hand-me-down clothes from their brothers or  sisters, not always brand-new clothing.

But that old lady is right, they didn’t have the green
 thing back in her day.

Back then, they had one TV, or radio, in the house – not
a TV in every room.  And the TV had a small screen the size of a handkerchief, not a screen the size of the  state of Montana. In the kitchen,  they blended and stirred  by hand because they didn’t have electric machines to do
everything for you.   When they packaged a fragile item  to send in the mail, they used a wadded up old newspaper  to cushion it, not styrofoam or plastic bubble wrap.

Back then, they didn’t fire up an engine and burn gasoline  just to cut the lawn. They used a push mower that ran on  human power.  They exercised by working so they didn’t  need to go to a health club to run on treadmills that  operate on electricity.

But she’s right, they didn’t have the green thing back then.

They drank from a fountain when they were thirsty, instead
of using a cup or a plastic bottle every time they had a drink  of water. They refilled their writing pens with ink, instead of  buying a new pen, and they replaced the razor blades in  a razor instead of throwing away the whole razor just  because the blade got dull.

But they didn’t have the green thing back then.

Back then, people took the streetcar or a bus and kids  rode their bikes to school, or walked,  instead of turning their moms into a 24-hour taxi service. They had one electrical outlet in a room, not an entire bank of sockets to power a dozen appliances.  And they didn’t need a
computerized gadget to receive a signal beamed from satellites 2,000 miles out in space in order to find  the nearest pizza joint.

But isn’t it sad the current generation laments how wasteful  the old folks were just because they didn’t have the green  thing back then?

Whatcha Got?

If you look at what you have in life,
You’ll always have more.
If you look at what you don’t have in life,
You’ll never have enough.

Live Life With No Regrets

I believe it is human nature to reflect on the past. The experiences from the past can often influence the decisions we make today. On the other hand the same is not true for regrets.

~ Regret is an odd emotion because it comes only upon reflection. Regret lacks immediacy, and so its power seldom influences events when it could do some good. ~ William O’Rourke

Regret serves no purpose in the present. To dwell on the shoulda, coulda, woulda, lends no value in the here and now!

How many times have you found yourself saying, “I wish I would have___________ (fill in the blank)? To do so is such a waste of the gift of the present! Think about it…
  • You can’t go back
  • You can’t undo what has been done
  • You can’t change the outcome

No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, Philippians 3:13 NLT

I challenge you my friend to step out of the past and enter the here and now and…

Freedom in Passion

More times than I can count I have been told I am passionate about different things…

To that I respond…YES, I AM!!!

I am of the belief we must be passionate about our beliefs, life, people and things we love. It is the passion we feel for all of these that give validity and importance!

In-fact…I have a passion meter; the higher the passion the greater the importance. While the term passion meter may not be used everyone has one. Other terms people may be more familiar with are

  • Soap Box
  • Button (as in when someone “pushes your button”)
  • Focus

To be passionate at any level ensures you are connected, engaged, care, or on board…In-fact the absence of passion leads to bondage; the bondage of apathy, listlessness, and disconnect.

Think about it…If God were not passionate about us He would have not given His Son as the ultimate sacrifice to give us freedom from our sin!!!

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16

Allow His passion to free you from your past, your sin, your apathy…The more you become aware of His passion the more you will become passionate about Him, people, things and the life  He has blessed you with!!!

Step into Freedom…Connect with your passions!!!

Quit Clawing and Let God

Thought for the Day shared on Facebook by a precious Sister this morning:

“We struggle, we climb, and we claw our way through the challenges that life throws at us. Sometimes we win; sometimes we lose. But the one constant that is always there is that God is always waiting to help. We don’t need to go it alone and with God anything is possible.”   – Elmer Laydon

I’m Not a Loser…I’m Resting!

You are Never a Loser Until You Quit Trying ~Mike Ditkau

This quote reminds me of others like…

  • “If at First You Don’t Succeed, Try and Try Again”
  • “Persistance Pays Off”
  • “A Quitter Never Wins”

And each of these quotes remind me of what I have been taught all my life…

While I do believe in perseverance, I also believe there is great value in allowing yourself to rest!

At times I find myself fatigued and drained and realize down times are essential for survival…We find ourselves in such a fast paced world where our success is measured by what we do, the number of social events we attend, our involvement in charities, or the number of friends we have. Often we become so involved in all the hubbub we lose the ability to shut down or relax enough to rest.

My dear friends, it is ok to slow down, put your feet up and relax. It is ok to do nothing but take care of you! Does it mean you are a quitter, that you have given up, or don’t care?

No…

It means you have come to the realization that if you don’t take care of you then you won’t be worth shooting or of value to anyone else. It is ok for you to rest and you should not feel guilty for doing so.

So, What Constitutes Rest?

Rest has different meanings…For one it may include napping or sleeping while for another it could mean reading, writing, painting, or anything that may allow you to tune out the chatter of society and enable you to focus on your Spiritual, Mental, and Physical well-being. Doing that which refreshes rather than drains.

For those who say, “I don’t know how to rest”, I remind you of what Jesus says…

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28

Go to Jesus, fall into His arms, and allow Him to provide you with REST…
