Do You Have Something To Give?

I love Extreme Make Over Home Edition…To see someone who is down on their luck receive a hand up from a community is so touching! I am sure it is such a rush for the people involved too. Not only do they get to participate in the outpouring of love on a good and deserving person but they also get to be in the spotlight surrounded by the cameras and glam of TV. It is such a great cause and some very giving people are highlighted.

But…what happens when the lights go out, the cameras go off, and everyone goes home?

Unfortunately, it is human nature to do for others only when people are watching but it takes a special and obedient person to give when no one is watching. In Matthew we are taught we will be blessed when we give in private.

“Be careful not to do your ‘acts of righteousness’ before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. Matthew 6:1-4

One of mine and Richard’s favorite ways to give is to go out to eat and pick up the tab for total strangers and to do it anonymously. Or to lean over and whisper to the grocery clerk “put it on my tab” for a person standing in the grocery line having to put food items back because they don’t have the money to pay.

Do you know someone in need and if so what are you doing about it? As Thanksgiving approaches, I encourage you to open your eyes and heart and give to those who are less fortunate than you. Share your hearts and homes with them or have food delivered to them anonymously. If you do not know anyone in need then ask God to place that person in your path so you can bless them. You can also contact your local church as they have knowledge of people in need.

Do you have something to give?

Recently I was the recipient of a gift given in private. I have no idea where it came from or who gave it but I am very grateful to the giver and appreciated the gift very much! I pray God will bless that special person richly for giving as instructed in His word.

All or Nothing

In life people are often faced with life changing decisions like marriage, parenting, or careers. These decisions can not be taken lightly and require a higher level of commitment and dedications.

One of those life changing decisions is to include Christ into ones life. Along with the decision to follow Christ, a decision about the level of commitment must be made as well. If knowing God, living for Him, and growing in your faith is important, then it is worth giving your whole heart to it. To put on a fancy show for others to convince them that you’re doing a good job or seeking to know God better. However, the bottom line is you can’t fool God. He looks deep into your heart and knows whether your efforts to know Him are shallow or whether they run deep.

“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with your whole heart”. Jeremiah 29:13

God looks deep into your heart and knows whether your efforts to know Him are shallow or whether they run deep. If they are deep and your heart’s desire is to know Him with all your heart, then mistakes and failures will be brushed aside.

Striving for excellence does not mean you will not make mistakes. But, unlike your family, friends, or acquaintances God does not beat you over the head with your past. He wraps his arms of forgiveness around your shoulder and supports you as you move forward in your walk with Him.  His opinion should be the only one that matters and we should live our life by His standards and not the opinions of others.

“An authentic life is the most personal form of worship. Everyday life has become my prayer.”  Sarah Ban Breathnach

It’s All Or Nothing…God cares about your heart’s priority so choose wisely!

The Ultimate Choice

Every day you make choices about how you will behave, how you will relate to other people, what your actions and reactions will be.

For a Christian the choice should be living for Jesus. Nothing should be more important than showing others what Christ is like.

IT IS A CHOICE…

“For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life.”  1Thessalonians 4:7

We are called to live a holy life; one of honor which would magnifiy the Lord. A life that puts Him first by bringing Him honor and glory; a living testimony of His love and acceptance.

Life is so incredibly fragile! Here today and gone tomorrow therefore, it is so critical we choose to live life in such a way others crave what we have; that others see Jesus in and through us! We can do this by living our lives as instructed in 1Thessalonians 4:11

“Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.”

Living your life while  Striving for Excellence in your daily walk!

Sonic Flood has a song which says it perfectly…

Holiness

Holiness, holiness is what I long for
Holiness is what I need
Holiness, holiness is what You want from me
Holiness, holiness is what I long for
Holiness is what I need
Holiness, holiness is what You want from me

So, take my heart and form it
Take my mind and transform it
Take my will and conform it To Yours, to Yours, oh, Lord

Do you long for His holiness?
Only Jesus can provide you with the holiness you long for and need.

Striving for Excellence

“Striving For Excellence”… No where in that statement does it say “Arrived at Excellence”.  The road to excellence is a journey and God provides the necessary roadmap for the journey when He says,

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.” Colossians 3:23

People can call you obsessive compulsive, passionate, annal, or any other term with a negative connotation but bottom line, if you are working with all your heart as unto the Lord and you are in pursuit of excellence you will find JOY.

Pearl Buck says it well…

“The secret of  Joy in work is contained in one word-Excellence. To know how to do something well is to enjoy it.”

If you’re not enjoying your work perhaps you are working to gain mans approval rather than God’s. I challenge you to begin your journey toward excellence today!

Moving On

Life is not fair and there are a lot of injustices in this world but does that give us an excuse to blame our present behaviors on the past?

For every event in our lives there is an emotion associated to that event. And, while an event may be a positive experience for one, it can be a very negative experience for another. Think about it… Holidays are a time of celebration with family and friends with lots of food, laughter, and hugs.

Well, for some that is true but for one friend that was not the case. Growing up she lived in a home where both parents were alcoholics, they had no money, she owned one dress and had to wash it every day so she could wear it the next, she lived in a shack, and their family was looked down on in the community. For her Christmas was a horrible day. Her parents would get drunk, fight, and pass out. She never had a Christmas dinner or received a Christmas gift.

Another friend was punished when she made a mess in their “immaculate” home. Today, she is obsessive compulsive about her home and it must be perfect because that is how she was raised and that was what was expected of her.

While another was made to cook and clean for her family as a child and to this day refuses to clean house and blame her parents for her dirty house and dysfunction.

As an adult these ladies have two choices…

  1. Live in the past and be miserable, dwelling on all the negativity, abuse, and heartache they had to endure as a children.
  2. Live in the present, forgiving, and releasing the emotions associated with their past while enjoying the present.

Now let me ask you…does it make sense to live in a home where you can not be comfortable because you are obsessed with keeping it immaculate?  Or better yet, does it make sense to live in an absolute pig pen because one is rebelling against their past…

Many are faced with that same choice. Perhaps you had a horrible childhood, your parents didn’t provide the love and acceptance you needed, you lived in poverty, or perhaps you suffered some type of abuse in your life. You have the same two choices as my friends.

How sad is it that we validate the past by giving it so much volume in our present?

Letting your past render you paralyzed and ineffective in the present is not God’s plan for your life!!!  For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

I use to blame my behaviors on my past, thinking my past justified my present behaviors. Then I realized…the injustice was done. It is over!!! It is the emotion tied to the injustice that lingers on.

So…It is the emotion we must deal with not our past!!!

He wants your life to be full of love, laughter, and peace of mind. He adores you! And so much so that He allowed His son to be the ultimate sacrifice for all sin, injustices, negative emotions, and bad thing that has happened in your life…

‘Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!’ 2Corinthians 5:17

I have accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior. He has made me a new creation and I am not the person I use to be…I am a His!

Not only has He given me the grace to deal with the emotions tied to my past, He has also given me the grace to love those who have not!

So for those of you my friends who have not dealt with the emotions associated with your past and continue to use it as an excuse for your present, I encourage you to give your past to Jesus and…

Step Into the Present With Freedom With Him!!!

Stand Firm & Be Still

How often do we forget God goes before us and He has everything under control. This is  especially difficult when everyone and all evidence around us screams failure…

This is not a dilemma specific to this day and age. In fact, in Exodus the Israelites faced the same dilemma. The Israelites had fled Egypt and was following the pillar of smoke by day and the pillar of fire by night when they had left Etham. God spoke to Moses and told him to tell the Israelites to turn back and encamp near Pi Hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea.  When Pharaoh found out the Israelites fled he took 600 of his best chariots along with all the other chariots of Egypt and pursued the Israelites. As Pharoah approached the Israelites looked up and there were the Egyptians marching after them.

Now I don’t know about you but the first words that come to my mind when I am in a pinch is “OH GOD” and that is just what the Israelites said. They immediately began to cry out to the Lord. Then much like we do today, they started blaming Moses for the mess they “thought” they were in. Hmmm….”Thought Life”  possibly a future post!

Did Moses cave under all the pressure? No…

“Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid.” Stand firm and you will see the deliverance of the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight fo you; you need only to be still.”

Wow…don’t know about you but if the enemy were marching toward me standing still would not be my reaction!

My dear friends we face the enemy every day!!! It is in the form of  Illness, Debt, Hunger, Broken Relationships, Bad Attitudes, Loneliness, Fluctuating Emotions…

What does your enemy look like? Are you panicking, blaming, or frozen by your fears?

God is the same yesterday, today, and forever…He knows the army you are facing. So stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today! He will fight for you if you will just be God is the same  still and stop trying to handle everything yourself!

Let Go And Let God!

Queen of Bling

Several years ago a dear friend said to me, “You know, are always dressed so nice, your hair is perfect, and you’re makeup looks great but… have you ever thought about accessorizing?”. Hmmmmm….I had never really thought much about accesories…I wore the same little necklace, stud earings, and rings every day so I realized, I didn’t know how to accessorize.

Once she made me aware of this opportunity, I set out to learn how to accessorize. I began to do my homework…Magazines, Store Displays, Internet, and Jewelry Shows. It didn’t take me long to figure out I LOVE BLING!!!

Guess what…GOD DOES TOO!

Glen Pease does an awesome job in his article “The Jewels Of Heaven” . I love every word he wrote and how he explains the importance of Jewels to God. I now realize…His children are His bling! Now I not only enjoy wearing bling but…

I AM THE BLING!!! And…YOU are His Bling Too!!!

Go forth…Shimmer and Shine for HIM!!!

What If There Is Not Another Side

Recently we spent a couple of weeks at Quintana Park on the beach and to travel back and forth to work , I had to cross a couple of really high bridges. Now for those who do not know me very well may not realize I have dealt with the fear of driving over bridges all my life. It begins at the base of the bridge and as I begin to ascend I begin to hyperventilate, my heart begins to pound, my palms get sweaty and as I approach the top of the bridge my teeth are clenched so tightly my head begins to hurt. Then this thought goes through my mind…

“What if there is not another side”

I was on my way to work one morning and I began to ascend the monster bridge over the Brazos River it was like fireworks went off in my mind…Just as I would ask myself “what if there is not another side”, I realized I continue to drive over that bridge because I have to believe it is going to be there. Common sense, Right?….WRONG!!! It is FAITH!

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1

I had faith the other side of the bridge was going to be there.

Have you ever wondered, “What if there is not another side” meaning heaven? Well, let me ask you …WHAT IF THERE IS? Are you prepared?

For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

There you have it…you just have to believe in him…just like you have to believe there is going to be another side of the bridge!!!  He loves you, He cares for you, He wants to rescue you!!!

HE IS THE BRIDGE TO THE OTHER SIDE!!!

I am now able to drive over the bridge without hyperventilating and sweating because KNOW there is another side!!!

WoooHooo…Claiming My Inheritance

My grandfather was a pharmacist and my grandmother was a registered nurse. As a young child I always knew my grandparents had a lot of money.    They owned most of Clute, TX ,  owned 2 drug stores, had a second home in Tennessee, and drove nice cars.  I also knew one of these days my Dad and Uncle would inherit it all and felt I would receive a portion later in life….NOT!!!

Both my Dad and my Uncle who were born with silver spoons in their mouth did not gain the business knowledge from their parents so they both quickly spent their inheritance. It didn’t take long to realize there was nothing left and all my Grandparents worked so hard for was gone and I would not have an inheritance…

NOT…I got my inheritance and It IS BEYOND MY WILDEST IMAGINATION!!!

But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons. Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father”. So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, God has made you also an heir.” Galations 4:4-7

Do you get it…Because I am a born again Christian making Jesus the Lord of my life…I am a child of God!!!

God my Heavenly Father has put me in His divine will.

So, here is just a few things I have inherited so far…My salvation, joy unspeakable and full of Glory, peace that passes understanding, a beautiful family, wonderful friends, a comfortable home, my health, a strong will, creative imagination, non judgemental attitude, a loving heart, and a fun-loving spirit.  Does He give it to me all at once?

NO… He knows I would not appreciate it all and could not comprehend it all. It would be overwhelming to me. He gives me a little at a time…so I am able to recognize what He has given me. In addition to what I am receiving on earth He also has an awesome inheritance for us in heaven. “…an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,” I Peter 1:4

While it is a travesty all that my Grandparents worked for is gone, it has been an incredible lesson to me. Primarily I have learned, my inheritance comes only from God and earthly treasures can not be taken with us when we die…

So I ask you…

Are you receiving your inheritance?

Getting Rid Of The Clutter

It is difficult to see the beauty of a garden when it is taken over by unsightly weeds. In much the same way it is difficult to see all the beautiful treasures in your  home when there is clutter. Clutter is easy to accumulate but can be difficult to clean up.

Clutter, is not only distracting but it adds chaos to the home and for everyone in it! Clutter can literally suck the life out of you without you even knowing it! I have heard people say but I function best in clutter. To that I say Hog Wash! I believe people often use that excuse so they don’t have to deal with their junk!

Because we are created in God’s image we love the things he loves and because God is a God of order we too thrive in order! Think about it…even when He created, He did it in an organized fashion. Think about it…how silly would it have been for him to create the animals prior to creating the heavens and the earth. Sometimes it just makes common sense…right? I would like to encourage you to read

Genesis chapter 1&2 to fully appreciate God’s sense of order.

When  God created the garden of Eden He meant it to be an orderly, beautiful, and serene place for Adam and Eve. They too had a problems with clutter. Their clutter was in the form of sin. When they cluttered the Garden of Eden with sin the weeds began to grow and  it became known as the Garden of Weed’n…and God created work!

So thanks to Adam and Eve to take control of our surroundings and create a haven for our ourselves and our family is gonna take some work! Removing cluttering can be an overwhelming task especially if everything has emotional or sentimental attachment for you. Or, perhaps you are afraid to remove something from your home because you might need it again. If this describe you then perhaps you might want to begin your endeavor to declutter with a word of prayer asking God to give you the strength, wisdom, and courage to detach emotionally and to trust that He will supply all your needs according to His riches in Glory.

When it comes to housework, my husband often says if you will tell me what needs to be done  I will help. This is such a foreign thought to me…I tell him, “It is really easy. Just stand back and survey the room. Look at the hard surfaces? If it doesn’t go there….Do something about it.” Items displayed that do not contribute to the beauty of the room just need to go away!!! So, store it, donate it, or just throw it away!

So with that said…let’s get started. Below are the steps that have helped me in this area. I encourage you to do what best works for you unless it means not doing it!

  • Grab 3 large tubs or cardboard boxes and label them
    • Store: For items you absolutely do not want to part with or can not replace
    • Donate: For items still in good condition but you will not use
    • Toss: For items which no longer have a use and must be thrown away
  • Focus on one room at a time to reduce feeling of being overwhelmed
  •  Begin on the far side of the room and work your way to the door so when you leave the room it is finished and you have a sense of accomplishment
  • Touch each thing only once by making a one time decision to put it away, throw it away, or store it. If you choose to toss it or store it then put the item in the appropriate box as indicated. This prevents re-work
  • Do not remove items  once the item is assigned to a box! Let go…this is where you must deal with the emotions attached to your “JUNK”.

If you do not have the strength or in-sight to be able to perform the steps above, perhaps bringing in a friend to help will provide the encouragement you need.

While getting the clutter out is not easy, you will be amazed at the difference a sense of order can add to your life!

I Encourage You To… DEAL WITH YOUR JUNK!!!
