My Savior and Lord…What exactly does that mean?

This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished- he did it to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus. Romans 3:22-26

It all began with His birth…“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

How cool is it that on Jesus’ Birthday we receive the gift… The Gift Of Eternal Life!!!

He never said it would be easy but he did say, “if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us” 2 Timothy 2:12

I claim to know Him, Love Him, and Serve Him…Have you opened your heart to receive the most important Gift EVER Given…JESUS?

He stands at your heart’s door and says…”Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me. To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne. Revelation 3:21

He also says…That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9

Open your heart and invite Jesus in…Receive God’s Gift Today!

Silent Mornings

Being a morning girl, I am up at the crack of dawn each day. With a fresh cup of steaming hot coffee, I sit in my favorite chair and listen to the soft music playing, my precious birds chirping, and the soft snore of Maggie Mae who is sleeping next to my chair.

This time of day has always been special to me as it carries the hope of new and exciting things to come…A fresh slate…A new beginning…An book waiting to be written.

But, first things first…I grab my laptop and go to Blue Letter Bible online for my morning Bible study. I love this application as it allows me to research, read, and navigate more easily. I love my time with the Lord in the morning! Reading His word keeps me in close relationship with Him!

But [it is] good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works. Psalms 73:28

It is when I draw near to Him, I am better able to recognize His sovereign hand on my life and trust He has everything under control. It is when I draw near to Him, I become keenly aware of His incredible love for me.

As I sit here this Christmas Eve morning surrounded by the comforts of home, I can’t help but reflect on

Those struggling emotionally with the holiday season
Those on foreign soil defending my right to be able to sit in the comfort of my home
Children missing their mommy or daddy because they are from broken homes
Moms or dads missing their children because of divorce
Those missing a family member who is no longer living
The homeless, cold, and hungry

Dear Daddy God,

I ask you in the precious name of Jesus to place your loving arms around each of these. Please meet them where they are; wrap your loving arms around them and hold their tender hearts in your hands. Keep them safe and warm. Shower them with your presence and make your presence known to them. Please give them comfort and a peace that passes understanding while making provisions for their needs. I thank you Father for the blessings you have poured out over my life. I love you and am so thankful you love me. THANK YOU FATHER!

Pregnant With Possibility

There will be worries. There will be struggles. But tomorrow is filled with possibility. I am inching toward eternity, and this is a journey I want to savor, not suffer through.

When Mary received the news she was carrying the Christ Child, she embraced the present for the future. She embraced the glares, glances, whispers, and disapproving looks of society all because she was pregnant with our possibilities…

The possibilities we have in today and tomorrow is because Mary said “Be it unto me”.

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Matthew 6:34

Because you have Jesus, you too are pregnant with possibility! Life is full of possibilities with Him. He is our hope, future, protector, healer, sustainer, strength, and joy. He wants us to live up to our full potential. To take life by the horns and enjoy the ride…

Have the courage to live fully today and await tomorrow with great hope; to be Pregnant with Possibility

Keep On Keeping On

Too much to do and not enough time to do it? Paul has no Peter to borrow from? People not working with ya? Life coming at you too fast? What to do when life gets overwhelming?

Keep on Keeping on!!!

Albert Einstein’s three rules of work which are especially true during the holidays…

1. Out of clutter, find simplicity

Christmas cards
- Place your cards next to your favorite chair so you can work on them while relaxing
- Compose a Newsletter highlight favorite events and milestones over the previous year. Insert into the Card
- Use address labels generated electronically
- Purchase standard size envelopes to avoid paying extra postage
Gifts wrap
- Use gift bags when possible.
- Purchase ribbon with wire in it for easier bows
- For easy gift labels use address labels
Food
- Invite family members to bring their favorite dishes
- Keep the menu simple
- Quality verses Quantity is a good practice
- Use no more than 5 ingredients (There are cookbooks to help with this)
- Decoration
House Work
- Focus on high traffic areas
- Place clutter in a storage tub to clear hard surfaces
- Ensure bathrooms are clean
- Clean up spills and soiled areas when they occur

2. From discord, find harmony

Give the Gift of Forgiveness
Practice kindness
Pray for those who are difficult to deal with
Make every effort to practice tolerance
Put others first
Include everyone no matter the circumstances…you will never get this day in time again.

3. In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.

Practice the KISS method (Keep It Simple Silly)
Think of different methods to accomplish your goals
Maximize on your gifts and talents
Captitalize on your passions
Ask for help

Most importantly, whether you are dealing with clutter, discord, or difficulties you can apply one action to all…Commit it to God!

Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust Him to help you do it and He will. Psalms 37:5 TLB

Life Is A Gift

Just yesterday my dear friend Jennifer Cannan posted on Facebook, “‎11 years ago, my dear husband, John, was being life-flighted with a traumatic brain injury from a fall and not expected to live. It has been a very long road of recovery that still to this day has significant effects. I lift God high today for granting us with John’s life and healing far beyond expectations!!!”.

What an awesome tribute to the miracles God has performed to preserve the life of John Cannan!

God is an awesome God and is in the business of saving lives. He posts angels about us, places a hedge of protection around us, keeps us in the palm of His hand (The Best Seat in the House), holds the heart of the broken-hearted, and shelters us with His Wings.

We dwell on what we know but it is the unknown we should be thankful for. I am so glad I do not know of all the near misses, the car wrecks, the assaults, and financial collapse. You see without God’s protection on our lives we would not be here; we would not survive.

I am captivated by the love God pours out on us and, As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Ephesians 4:1

Celebrate Life in Him Today!

Be A Fruit Cake

I find it interesting how everyone thinks everything is about them. People jockeying for the closest parking spot, pushing and shoving to catch a sale, cutting people off in traffic, oh and let’s not forget the one finger salute…We have turned into such selfish people! The world would be such a better place if we would all just turn into fruit cakes!!!

The best fruit is essential to an excellent fruit cake. Only the finest fruit will do and it must be ripened to perfection! It is not the kind of fruit you can find at your local grocery…Oh no, it is specially cultivated. Then it is candied and sugary sweet…

It is the Fruit of the Spirit!

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23

Wow…interesting concept! If we all waited our turn, smiled, spoke to each other politely, stood up for each other, and didn’t demand our own way can you imagine what our world would be like?

So next time the line is moving slow at the grocery store and you reach the cashier you could offer him/her some words of encouragement, a smile, or a piece of gum.

Could today be the day you help that mom with 3 children load her groceries into her car or you offer to put her basket in the rack across the parking lot.

Perhaps today you could randomly choose to pick up the tab for someone’s lunch.

It doesn’t have to be huge…the simple gestures are often the most appreciated. You can make a difference in this world. So…

The Holiday Season is upon us and everyone is so busy getting ready. What to cook, what to buy, so much to do…so little time…so little money. Then you have the Christmas cards and gift wrapping…It is a literal battle to get everything accomplished!!!

I Love It When She Laughs

On Saturday, I took a road trip to Houston with my daughter and friend for a little shopping on Harwin Street. At one point Brandi realized she had made a wrong turn. She saw a break in the traffic and did a very quick u-turn in the middle of the road. It wasn’t until I was able to upright myself from the other side of the car, did I realize what had happened. When my head popped up Brandi burst into laughter saying my eyes were as big as saucers and the look of shock on my face was priceless. It was all worth it to hear my daughter belly laugh herself into tears.

I was reminded of this when I read my Bible this morning. the scripture was…

A cheerful heart is good like a medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. Proverbs 17:22

A cheerful person laughs often. In fact you will seldom find a cheerful person who walks around like they have been sucking on lemons. I love surrounding myself with happy people…

Victor Borge, the comic classical pianist, once said, “Laughter is the shortest distance between two people.” But laughter does more than help us bond. It’s been shown to have a positive effect on physical and mental health. Laughter is a cardiac workout, causing a reduction in blood pressure and blood sugar, and brings six times more oxygen to the brain. Laughter is affordable, it energizes and is undeniably enjoyable.

The Best Seat In The House

My Husband and I enjoy theatrical performances, ballet, musicals, orchestra, opera, and choral concerts. We try to choose our seating to ensure we are able to see and hear as much as possible. We want the best seats in the house although they are not always within our reach financially so we feel comfortable and safe (I don’t care for heights).

There is one seat I am guaranteed in life. It is always available and I never have to make reservations. It is comfortable and very safe. It is in the Hand Of God…

In His hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind. Job 12:10

How awesome is that? In His hand we are held. In His hand I am comfortable, protected, and alive.

We Are Never More Than an Arms Length Away Sitting in the Hand Of God!

And it is with His hands He draws us to Himself embracing us and holding us near to His heart.

I Have the Best Seat In the House! Come Join Me…

Being Content

This morning I watched a show called “Cash in the Attic” and found it interesting how the family on the show sells the “stuff” that has accumulated in their attic in order to buy more stuff. Interesting concept…it caused me to think back on the different phases of my life.

When Richard and I were first married our first home was an apartment in Angleton. It wasn’t long after that we realized apartment living was not for us so we purchased a trailer house. We loved it and was perfect for the two of us but it wasn’t long after that we were three. So, we purchased a 1200 sq ft brick home in Angleton. This little place was great while my girls were at my feet but once they were at my shoulders we found ourselves a little cramped so we moved into a 3800 sq ft home. Once Richard decided to attend Seminary we sold our home and moved into a little place next door to my grandparents which was 600 sq ft.

I share the history to say… It was not the size of the house or the possession the house contained which defined me; it was my attitude. We have had some really tough financial times and we have had some plentiful times but during those times I relied on the scripture Philipians 4:12-13.

I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

Did I feel like things were futile? At times…Yes! But it is during those lean times I learned to be content and focus on what I do have rather than dwell on what I didn’t have.

Remember…Life is about relationships and people; not about “Things”.
