Hoop Hoop Hurray She Made It!

New to basketball with approximately three hours of practice under her belt,  Cheyenne gets a chance to score…

Cheyenne #22 does an outstanding job at defense but also does a great job at offense in this game. In-fact she received an award for outstanding offense.

Way to Go Cheyenne!!!

It is so fun to watch not only my only granddaughter celebrate her successes, it is also fun to watch my kiddo enjoy being a Mommy… which is Brandi’s greatest joy!!! I so grateful Brandi ensures Cheyenne is involved in positive and uplifting activities while maintaining a healthy balance…

Cheyenne’s First Basketball Game

Up bright and early today…we were headed out to see Cheyenne’s first basketball game. When we arrived she was already out on the court warming up and looked as though she had been playing ball for a good while when in-fact she had only had 2 practices before today’s game.

Upwards Basket ball is an awesome program. The kids not only learn about basketball but Biblical principles as well. The game was started with a word of prayer and during half time a devotion was delivered by the pastor of First Baptist Church of Lake Jackson. After the game the coaches met with the team and issued awards. Cheyenne received the Christlike award…Of all the awards that would be the one I would want!

After the game I so enjoyed watching Tori and Brandi play a game of tetherball…Brandi played her daddy and Michael too. Then Brandi proceeded to the teeter totter…Some kids just never grow up!

Makes a mom proud to see her kids and grandkids enjoying life!

The Gift That Keeps Giving

Wow, it is hard to believe it came and went so quickly…All the anticipation, planning, and work then it is over just like that!

Typically for a day or two after a big family event there is a little sense of sadness the event is over. This Christmas was not the exception…However, it was less than in years past because Christmas is not officially over for me.

One of the gifts I gave continues to require quite a bit of work!

Our youngest daughter Brandi has been asking about childhood pictures. I had to admit to her I had been a very poor manager of the family photos. Well, no more! I decided to get busy and work on getting our old photos scanned and stored electronically. Then once scanned, I will move the photos over to the portable drive I gave her for Christmas. Once all the old photos are loaded, she will only need to bring her portable drive over every so often to receive our most recent photos.

What a trip down memory lane this has been…It is amazing all that has happened in our lives over 33 years of marriage. With each photo comes the flood of emotions evoked by the memories surrounding the image of the person, place or event.

I am so blessed to have such awesome family and friends. Each time we come together we make such incredible memories…Photos help me keep the memories vibrant and alive. While I am not a photographer and half the time can not figure out how to use my camera, I do enjoy taking lots of pictures with the goal of passing forward our memories of family to the next generation.

So, the next time you see camera flashes, don’t say “Oh No, Not More Pictures” Instead say…

“Click me…Click me…Document My Existance…I want to be a part of the memory”.

A Few Memories of the Kids and Grandkids

One final thought…Photos are not enjoyed by all unless they are shared…

She Can Sing

People were also bringing babies to Jesus to have him touch them. When the disciples saw this, they rebuked them. But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” Luke 18:15-17

I was reminded on this scripture last night when I watched the Kids Rock Choir at First Baptist Church of Brazoria perform their annual Christmas program, “The Present is the Future”.   They shared the true meaning of Christmas sharing the message without Jesus we have no future. Their enthusiasm was contagious, the music upbeat, and choreography flamboyant.

In addition to sharing Jesus the performance held additional sentiment for me. To have the honor of seeing both my daughter and granddaughter use their God-given talent to bring glory and honor to Jesus was the icing on the cake!

Brandi my daughter has such a passion for Jesus and for music. I am so proud of her for dedicating her life to Jesus and sharing her passion for music with the next generation. The children just love her and it is obvious she loves them too.

Seeing Cheyenne, my granddaughter celebrating Jesus through drama and music, made me so excited. Cheyenne and I have sang songs to the radio or CDs  in the car but I have never heard her sing a solo. She grabbed the microphone and sang like a pro! The first thing that went through my mind was…

She Can Sing!!!

God is so good to give Cheyenne a beautiful voice and to allow our family’s passion for music to be carried on to the next generation.

Thank you for allowing me a moment to be Mom and Meme…

The Value of Recognition

I will never forget playing the role of Widow Carney in the musical “Oliver”, it was both challenging and fun. I like all my other classmates worked hard to ensure the production was a success. What I never expected was to receive the award for “Best Supporting Actress”.

Wow.. I didn’t even know there was one but it was such an honor to receive the award. In fact, I still have the trophy today.

What I learned from receiving this honor was…

It Is So Important To Recognize People For What They Do!

Today this concept was reinforced when I attended Stephen F. Austin Elementary’s Awards Ceremony. Watching my Granddaughter Cheyenne receive awards for “A” Honor Roll, Perfect Attendance, and the coveted Gator Award was priceless. Cheyenne beam as she looked around the room and realized everyone she had invited was there. While receiving the award was very important to her, it was more important for those she loves to witness her receive the awards.

I am so very proud of Cheyenne…She worked very hard for her awards. I would also like to thank the teachers and administrators at SFA Elementary for recognizing the children for their hard work!

Recognition is vital for the well-being of an individual. So, I ask you…

Cheyenne Got It Started

Traditions are so important to pass on to the next generation but one tradition in our family was started by my Granddaughter.

We love getting away when we can and the timing was perfect to take a trip in the RV to Lake Texana for my Birthday. One afternoon while we were sitting out under the trees having coffee, the phone rang. It was our precious Cheyenne  and she said, “Hi Meme; where are you?” I told her Papa and I were camping at Lake Texana. Then she asked, “But what about your Birthday? It’s your Birthday and we have to have a party.” I told her Meme’s don’t have Birthday parties we go camping. She responded, “No Meme EVERYONE has to have a Birthday party and we have to have a party for you!”

She was so insistent and would not take no for an answer so I promised her when I returned home we would have a party and celebrate my Birthday. That seemed to pacify her for the time being. But on Sunday as we were traveling home the phone rang again. It was Chey, “Meme are you coming home for your party?”  I assured her again we would have a party.

The pressure was on…I was headed home and my Granddaughter was meeting me at my house to celebrate my Birthday. What on earth could I do quickly? Then it came to me…We will just have a little tea party.

When I arrived home, I pulled out a flowered table-cloth and put it on the table, grabbed some cute dishes I had tucked away in the buffet and filled them with nuts, Cheetos, and M&Ms, made some peanut butter and jelly finger sandwiches, brewed a pot of tea and we were ready to party! The guest list was short…just Cheyenne, Richard and I but we had loads of fun!

That was my very first Birthday Tea and every year since Cheyenne asks, “Hey Meme, what day are we having your Tea Party this year?”

Today we are celebrating the 5th Annual Birthday Tea…”La Tea Dah”.  Though guest list has grown considerably and the menu has gotten much tastier with each passing year I will never forget my first Tea Party with my Granddaughter and how a new tradition got started.

Thank You Cheyenne!

An Unexpected Treasure

Your entire day can change with one small and unexpected gift.

It was Sunday and  we are at my daughter and son-in-laws and are going to  watch football; The Houston Texans vs. The Dallas Cowboys. As anyone knows, no game is complete without food so Brandi, Richard, and I were in the house cooking while everyone else gathered in the game room for the game.

Brandi had planned to grill chicken and make oven roasted potatoes and I brought a big spinach, strawberry, and walnut salad, along with some deviled eggs. A couple of store-bought desserts and it’s a meal. While Richard and Brandi focused on grilling the chicken, I decided to do a little writing on my blog.

As I waited for the website to open my mind drifted and I began to think about my granddaughter Cheyenne. She was at her dad’s and I was missing her. I thought about her cute little giggle, her whimsical personality, and sweet spirit. The more I thought about her the worse I missed her.

Suddenly my mind returned to writing when my website came up on the screen in front of me. As always I check the comment section to make sure I approve all pending comments and there it was my unexpected treasure. My precious Cheyenne had gone on-line and located my blog. Then she went to the page titled “Family Fun” to hide a buried treasure.

The Treasure

“hi meme i just whant to say that i love you and that you are the cooooolest meme ever my memaw sayed that mabbyshe mite come to the tee party.”

There is no greater joy for this Meme than to know my precious granddaughter stopped her day to look up A Love Lee Place, find the “Family Fun” Page, and leave me a treasure.

Treasures come in various forms. I’ve found mine
